Anastazia Kuzmina wins Slovakia’s first gold and the first gold of these Olympics by a woman. Twenty-five year old, Anastazia triumphed over highly regarded Magdelana Neuner of Germany (silver) and Marie Dorin of France (bronze). This marks Anastazia’s first major title. Although born in Russia, Anastazia switched her allegiance to Slovakia in 2008 since they would allow her to bring her son to national training camps. She is coached by her husband, Daniel Kuzmin, an Israeli cross country skiier. Her sport is a family affair.
