Workshop for Female Athletes
Mill Valley Inn, 6:30-8:45pm
This workshop is for teenage and adult female athletes from all sports. This workshop is intended to help participants explore and understand their body image and any issues attached to it.
But, what is body image? Body image consists of the internal thoughts, feelings, and attitudes a girl or woman has about her body. It also involves an individual’s perception about their weight, size, height, and body shape. We will discuss and cover such topics as overcoming cultural pressures and expectations and being a fit athlete and how that looks and feels for you. “Sports body stereotypes” occur when “thinness is accepted as both normal and desirable, as well as the presumption of good health with good performance” (Johnson et al, 1999). The session will be interactive, provide worksheets, and handouts.
